Thursday, November 12, 2009

Today's 8 hour offshore fishing trip was run with Capt. Johnny Williams at the helm. He had the 29 fishermen working their baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines throughout the water column. Today's first fishing stops were in the Buccaneer Field wrecks area which is about 30 miles south of The Island, in l70 ft. of water. Nearby surface platforms were also fished. The catch from these stops was:

15 Atlantic spadefish
17 mangrove snapper
1 pompano
2 croaker
1 sand trout
several released red snapper

Returning to Galveston's Pier 19 from offshore also included a stop at the south jetty where they caught:

9 bull redfish, released
16 gafftop catfish
4 whiting

This mornings four hour bay and jetty fishing trip was headed up by Capt. Johnny Williams. He had the 63 fishermen working their baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines at Galveston's north and south jetties. Those baits, worked at or near the bottom, produced a catch of bull redfish, sandtrout, black drum, sharpnose sharks, whiting and gafftop catfish.

The afternoon trip had 14 fishermen and they fished once again at the jetties, fishing at or near the bottom. Their catch was made up of bull redfish, sharpnose sharks and gafftop catfish.

With a breezy morning to contend with, Capt. Johnny Williams took the 25 fishermen aboard fishing near the concrete ship "Selma". This 4 hour bay trip had the fishermen working their cut squid baits at the bottom to entice a catch of:
7 bull redfish,
19 shark
5 croaker
2 whiting
51 gafftop catfish

This morning's 4 hour bay/jetty fishing trip was a charter by TEKO Construction Co. from Houston. Capt. Johnny Williams had this group of 26 fishing in the area of Galveston's South Jetty. Fishing their baits of cut squid near the bottom produced a catch made up of 7 bull redfish, 7 shark and 18 gafftop catfish.

With Capt. Johnny Williams in the driver's seat, a run to the general area of the south jetty began. This afternoon's trip had another 26 fishermen aboard. Their cut squid baits coaxed a catch into biting that included 14 bull redfish, 1 shark, 1 stingray and 16 gafftop catfish.

The 33 fishermen fished at Galveston's south jetty this morning with Capt. Johnny Williams. They decked a catch of:
4 bull redfish,
8 shark,
1 sandtrout,
1 spadefish,
28 gafftop
