With those two unwanted visitors "Bumpy and Breezy" still in the neighborhood, Capt. Johnny Williams pointed the sleek, twin hulls of the partyboat Capt. John through the chop. The offshore run began after passing the end of Galveston's South Jetty. About 45 miles later, fishing started at the wreck of the V.A.Fogg. Fishing its 100 ft. deep waters, the 53 fishermen wound in a multi-species catch which included red snapper, lane snapper, vermilion snapper, Atlantic spadefish, triggerfish, mangrove snappers, etc. Next, they fished rock formations a bit farther offshore in about 110 ft. of water.
Baits such as pieces of cut squid, various artificials lures and whole Spanish sardines helped the fishermen bring in this catch:
* 106 red snapper to 17#, a boat limit. * 2 mangrove snapper * 20 lane snapper * 17 vermilion snapper * 1 ling * 40 Atlantic spadefish * 13 gray triggerfish
Buck Farrar and 15 year old son Spencer from Bethel Springs, TN, each with red snapper limits on Carolina rigged sardines and 1 oz. Snapper Slappers. Shannon Cox and wife Julie from Harrison, Arkansas - red snapper limits on squid pieces and Spanish sardines. Shannon Williams, Capt. Williams' sixteen year old daughter, had vermilion snapper, red snapper and Atlantic spadefish, again on sardines or pieces of cut squid.
Your opportunity to participate in reeling in one of these multi-species catches awaits you aboard the Capt. John. Give the office at Pier 19 a call at 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. Be a participant, not a "Wish I had been there" person -- who knows what might end up on your hook out there.

"Bumpy & Breezy" were back for today's offshore fishing trip by the partyboat Capt. John as Capt. Tony Langston tried to maneuver around numerous squalls. The weather didn't prevent the 29 fishermen from winding in another of those multi-species catches.
Once past the end of Galveston's south jetty, the run SE began. About fifty miles later, fishing started in 112 ft. of water. Working their cut squid or whole sardine baits over the area's rock formations and wrecks resulted in this catch being iced down in the fish boxes:
* 58 red snapper to 12#, a boat limit, with many in the 6 to 8 lb. class. * 1 gag grouper - 7# * 1 Warsaw grouper - 18# * 4 kingfish to 22#
To make your reservations on the partyboat Capt. John, call the Pier 19 office at 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. Hopefully, "Bumpy & Breezy" won't be around for long, making for a more pleasant fishing experience.

The return of relatively calm sea conditions for this day trip by the partyboat Capt. John was certainly welcome. With a few persistent showers to the south of Galveston Island, Capt. Tony Langston made run to the SE after passing the South Jetty.
Rocks and wrecks about 55 miles offshore in 125 ft. of water were the destination chosen for the 75 fishermen. Using standard partyboat baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines resulted in this catch being iced down in the fish boxes:
* 150 red snapper to 12#, a boat limit * 1 mangrove snapper, 10# * 2 dorado - 8# ea. (mahi-mahi)
Make your reservations on the Capt. John and experience some of this family-style offshore fishing at a reasonable cost...give the office a call at 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. Don't forget - the red snapper fishery will close for 2007 in just a little over three weeks.

This was one of those 36 hour overnight offshore fishing trips that the partyboat Capt. John is known for. Leaving Pier 19 Thursday morning with 33 fishermen aboard and shortly thereafter turning at the end of the South jetty, Capt. Tony Langston pointed the twin hulls to the south. Capt. Shane Steber was the required second captain. A stop was made about 65 miles out with red snapper as the primary target. When the anchor was pulled, close to half the allowable double limit was in the fish boxes. The second stop was at Stetson Rock, about 72 miles offshore. Not a lot was happening there and the run much farther offshore began.
Shortly after arriving at the Nancen Spar Platform, the numerous drifts that were made during the overnight period began. Nancen Spar is located 117 miles south of The Island in 3,675 lb. of water. When the trip inshore started on Friday just after sunrise, 165 blackfin tuna to 18 lb. had been decked, gutted and iced down. Most were taken on chrome diamond jigs of 4 or 6 oz. The attention getter at Nancen was an estimated 250 lb. mako shark that hit a piece of cut bait. The fun lasted until the mono leader that obviously was not intended for a shark was bitten off near boatside.
Stops on the return trip were made at a shrimpboat where an 8 lb. Dorado (mahi-mahi) was taken, a coral outcropping in 175' of water, a sunken platform and another bottom spot. These stops produced a variety of groupers, barracuda, other bottom fish, vermilion snapper and the bulk of the allowable two day limit of red snapper.
Baits used over the two days included pieces of cut squid, whole squid, Spanish sardines and a variety of artificial lures. These baits combined with the efforts of the 33 fishermen and produced this catch:
* 132 red snapper to 14 lb. (allowed double daily limit) * 52 vermilion snapper * 19 lane snapper * 3 mangrove snapper * 18 Atlantic sharpnose sharks * 4 barracuda * 4 kingfish * 1 piggy perch * 2 whitebone porgy * 2 creolefish * 1 dorado (mahi-mahi) of 8 lb. * 5 rockhind grouper * 2 scamp grouper, 12 lb. ea. * 9 gray triggerfish * 165 blackfin tuna to 18 lb.
During this 36 hour trip, there was a weak low pressure working its way to the west, just off the coast. Its effect was minimal as the seas were about four feet, and began with a steady drop over the thirty six hours to about a foot by Friday afternoon. At this time, there are eight more of these overnight trips on the books for the partyboat Capt. John. Give the office a ring to make your reservations and see what part of one of these great multi-species catches you can wind in. Call today, the numbers are either 409-762-8808 or, in the Houston area, 713-223-4853. The friendly informed office staff is waiting for your call. Among others, that nice mako is possibly out there waiting for someone to hook up with...make the call today.

With seas of about three feet to work with, today's offshore fishing trip by the partyboat Capt. John was run under much better conditions than yesterday...This was just fine with Capt. Tony Langston and the 33 fishermen aboard. Today's target area was a couple of wrecks and a rig in around 75 ft. of water, 35 miles past the end of Galveston's South Jetty. The fishermen and their cut squid or whole Spanish sardine baits convinced this catch to take the ride back to Pier 19 in the Capt. John's iced fish boxes:
* 66 red snapper to 12#, a daily limit for all 33 fishermen aboard * 31 mangrove snapper to 10# * 30 lane snapper * 19 Atlantic spadefish * 2 bonnethead shark * 1 ling
Sam Rosas, Sugarland, along with four of his co-workers, Edgar Rodriguez, Carlos Jamie, Eric Rodriguez and Ignacio Rios all had red snapper limits to go along with Sam's 5 mangrove snapper to 10 lbs., Edgar's 6 mangroves to 9#, Carlos' 5 mangroves, 2 bonnethead sharks, 5 lane snapper and Eric's mangrove snapper.
What a great fishing day for Sam's group, along with all that "fellowship". Come fishing on the Capt. John with a family or friends group and enjoy the offshore fishing experience. Make that call to the office today at 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. Don't forget, October 31 is the last day the red snapper fishery is open in Federal waters this year. Make that reservations call.
