With Capt. Johnny Williams at the helm, the partyboat Capt. John made its way offshore after passing thru the jetties. The area for today was a series of rock formations in a SSW direction in around 120 ft. of water. Once in the fishing area, the fishermen had their cut squid or Spanish sardine baits working from near the surface to the bottom, which produced a catch which included a boat limit of 64 red snapper to 15#. Also in the catch was Atlantic sharpnose shark, vermilion snapper, lane snapper, triggerfish and an undersize ling that was released. Speaking of released, four warsaw grouper were caught today, three were vented and released. the good and bad of these warsaw is that one was kept - the first one - an 8 pounder. Of the 3 that were released, the heaviest was a sixty pounder, caught by Rob Richardson - it's still out there, ready to fight again.
Aaron Hardin (Texas City) This hard fishing youngster had a red snapper limit to 10#. Ben Arnold (Texas City) With a red snapper limit to 8#. Jim Marigliano (Dallas) His red snapper limit went to 8#. Mike Richardson (Corinth) his red snapper limit went to 10#. Rob Richardson (Lone Oak) his red snapper limit went to 12#. He also had the 60# warsaw grouper that was vented and released (the boat limit is one a day).
Besides the captain and the deck crew, another person important in making your trip a good one is Stan in the snack bar. Whether from the drink cooler, microwave or packaged off the counter, Stan can keep your thirst and hunger satisfied, all at reasonable cost. Stan, another feature on the Capt. John who helps make your fishing day.
Reservations start with a phone call to the Pier 19 office at 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. This will get you in touch with Dorothy or Vicky.
Two items to keep in mind - the red snapper fishery in Federal waters is open only thru around mid-August. The other is the requirement that you must have a Texas Saltwater fishing license. An easy way is to get it at 1-800-TXLIC4U, or at the office, which is time consuming if a number of fishermen on a trip do it this way just before departure. The phone call is easier and faster. The bottom line is to get on the Capt. John and see what the unknown is on the other end of your line - it could be a tasty red snapper or one of the others that make up a typical varied species catch. Make that call to the office today and let them know where you heard about the Capt. John. Patrick

Capt. Johnny Williams began the offshore run shortly after leaving Galveston's Pier 19 with 35 fishermen aboard. Initial stops for the day were over the wreck of the V.A.Fogg, about 45 miles to the SSW of the end of Galveston's South Jetty in 100' of water.
Fishing their baits of cut squid or spanish sardines from the near surface to the bottom, the following catch was lured into coming over the rail:
A red snapper boat limit of 70 to 14#. 5 kingfish to 45# 2 Atlantic sharpnose sharks 2 triggerfish 1 stingray 5 vermilion snapper 1 lane snapper 2 mangrove snapper 1 Warsaw grouper

The red snapper fishery in Federal waters (beyond 9 nautical miles), is finally open. Today's offshore day trip by the partyboat Capt. John was headed up by Capt. Johnny Williams. With 58 of us fishermen aboard, the run offshore began shortly after leaving Galveston's Pier 19. We left a little late because of needed Texas saltwater fishing licenses being processed in the office. Besides the usual sources such as tackle and sporting goods stores, a quick and easy way to go is by dialing up 1-800-TXLIC4U. This Texas Parks & Wildlife location will do the job in just a couple of minutes.
After a run of about fifty miles SSE, we were at the area to be fished. Stops in 110 to 115 feet of water over several rock formations had the baits of cut squid, Spanish sardines and assorted artificials enticing this catch to join us:
116 red snapper, a boat limit, to over 23#, many 6-8#, numerous 10-16# and three of 18 to 23#. 3 kingfish. Several triggerfish & Atlantic sharpnose shark.
Some of the individual catches: Clay Minor (Houston)- his red snapper limit went to 8#. Robert Canon (Waller) - Red Snapper limit to 10#. Gino & Kat Asuncion (Galveston) - Their red snapper limits went to 10#. Jim Marigliano (Dallas) - red snapper limit to 8#. Rob Richardson (Lone Oak) - Red snapper limit to 13#, on a 3 oz. Snapper Slapper, pink & chartreuse. Mike Richardson - (Corinth)Red snapper limit to 15#. Perry Howard(Silsbee) - his red snapper limit topped them all on today's trip with a true sow red snapper that weighed in at 23.54 lbs. Patrick Lemire (Texas City)-My red snapper limit went to 11#.
Don't forget that the red snapper fishery being open won't last. August 14 is the last day it's open, those weeks will pass in what seems like a heartbeat. To make your reservations on the partyboat Capt. John give the Williams office at Galveston's Pier 19 a call soon. The numbers to get you connected are 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853. Don't forget that tip speeding up your "thru the office and ticketing process"...1-800-TXLIC4U. Those hard-pulling and delicious red snapper are out there, plus a variety of other species, waiting to make your acquaintance, meet them soon on the Capt. John. Patrick
