Today, the partyboat Capt. John's offshore fishing trip had Capt. Johnny Williams at the wheel. Leaving Pier 19 and exiting the Galveston jetties, the offshore run of about 55 miles SE of Galveston began. Capt. Williams had the 40 fishermen at this fishing area for the day, fishing over rocks in the 115-120 ft. of water. Baits of Spanish sardines and cut squid, along with the fishermen's efforts, produced a catch which included a red snapper limit to 18#.

Red snapper fishery closes in Federal waters soon...call 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853 for reservations aboard the partyboat Capt. John and go fishing with us!

Heading in a southerly direction again today was the route chosen by Capt. Johnny Williams for the 39 fishermen aboard the partyboat Capt John. The area, about 50 miles offshore, with its 110 ft. deep water covered rocks and a production platform on the way back was where today's fishing was done.

Baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines, along with the fishermen's efforts, had this catch ending up in the fish boxes:

75 red snapper to 12#, 3 short of a limit.
10 mangrove snapper to 8#
9 lane snapper
1 sandtrout
23 Atlantic spadefish
9 Atlantic sharpnose sharks
28 kingfish to 21#

The closure of the red snapper fishery in Federal waters is creeping up on us, there's only 45 days let. Get on the Capt. John before this happens, call 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853 for reservations.

Capt. Johnny Williams chose an area fifty miles or so south of Galveston, in 110 ft. deep water as the fishing area for today. The offshore run began shortly after leaving Pier 19 and then exiting the Galveston jetties.

Sardine and/or pieces of cut squid that the 83 fishermen worked from just below the surface to the rocky bottom convinced this catch into biting:

111 red snapper to 13#, almost 2/3 of a limit.
49 vermilion snapper
3 lane snapper
3 kingfish to 20#
2 ling of 38 and 40#

Don't forget that there's only about 7 weeks left for the 2009 red snapper fishery in Federal waters to be open. August 14th is the last day it's open until 2010...call 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853 today for your reservations aboard the Capt John, and you'll be on your way.
