Capt. Johnny Williams had the 55 fishermen aboard the partyboat Capt John fishing in the same area and structure today as yesterday, and they wound in a catch which consisted of:

63 red snapper to 18#
10 lane snapper
19 vermilion snapper
1 ling of 30#
18 kingfish
5 mangrove snapper
3 Atlantic sharpnose shark
1 rockhind grouper
1 bluefish
2 Atlantic spadefish

Tomorrow, July 8, marks the halfway point of the red snapper fishery in Federal waters being open for 2009. Don't hesitate if red snapper fishing is of interest to you. Call the Capt John office today, 409-762-8808 or 713-223-4853 and make your reservations.

The partyboat Capt. John's fishing destination today was an area about 50 miles SE of Galveston in around 115 ft. of water. The target area's rocks and mid-waters were the main interest for the 73 fishermen aboard with their cut squid or dardine baits. However, some near-the-surface kingfish also showed up.

The catch was made up of:

11 red snapper to 14#, half 8# and over
14 kingfish,
8 lane snapper
21 vermilion snapper
2 Atlantic sharpnose sharks

For today's offshore fishing trip aboard the partyboat Capt. John, Capt. Shawn Clark chose the area about 44 miles to the SE of Galveston Island. Bottom stops and a production platform in 90-100 ft. of water produced this catch for the 53 fishermen on the boat today:

106 red snapper to 17#
15 lane snapper
7 kingfish to 27#
2 sharpnose sharks
11 bluerunner
1 rainbow runner
1 bull shark, 6 ft., released

The wreck of the V.A. Fogg, located about 45 miles SSW of Galveston in 100 ft. of water was the target area that Capt. Shawn Clark selected for today's fishing.

The 83 fishermen and their squid or sardine baits coaxed this catch into joining them on the deck of the partyboat Capt John:

95 red snapper
2 mangrove snapper
9 vermilion snapper
11 lane snapper
2 bluefish
5 kingfish
1 stingray, 40#
1 jack crevalle, 25#
19 Atlantic spadefish

Today's offshore fishing trip by the partyboat Capt John took the 81 fishermen over the Gulf in a southerly direction for about 55 miles with Capt. Shawn Clark at the helm. The baits of cut squid or whole Spanish sardines, and the fishermen's efforts, had this catch coming up and over the rails:

104 red snapper
31 vermilion snapper
10 lane snapper
8 Atlantic sharpnose sharks
2 porgies
2 Warsaw grouper
